Fluorescent lights

Until recently, fluorescent lighting was relatively rare in households. Older models were oversized and the quality of lighting was poor in almost every room in the house. Today, new types of lamps and fluorescent tubes produce light comparable to incandescent lighting.

Fluorescent lighting is now suitable to almost all kind of spaces and can be an economical choice in the long term. The initial cost of fluorescent tubes is certainly higher, but these tubes use 60 to 80 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs and last 10 to 20 times longer. The electricity bill is considerably reduced and the costs of lamp replacement are also diminished. Let’s not forget the other benefits:
  • Modern fluorescent lamps have a higher colour rendering index (CRI), which eliminates the colour distortion.
  • Their brightness and glare are relatively low, causing little discomfort.
  • New electronic ballasts operate quietly and do not cause flickering like the old fluorescent magnetic ballasts.
  • Fluorescent lamps operate with conventional light switches (though some may require a special dimmer switch).
There are various types of fluorescent bulbs: linear, U-shaped, circular and compact.

The installation, maintenance or repair of a fluorescent lighting system usually requires a qualified electrician. Electrical activity is not advisable to be undertaken by unprepared personnel.
